The seat runs 51cm front edge to back, well past the dining chair you are sitting on now, and the extra is what invites you forward. Slide forward and the backrest is behind you instead of against you — fine for a cup of tea, tiring by the end of an evening. A cushion this deep also sits lower with you on it than it measures empty.
