The Bark Chenille Armchair in khaki is broad and low, a chair that takes a corner of a lounge rather than a place in the row facing the television. Its widest measurement is at floor level: the feet stand outside the seat and the shell narrows as it rises, so the number that has to clear an alcove is the one nobody thinks to take.
The seat measures 56cm deep, which is longer than most adult thighs. Sit upright with your heels on the floor and your back does not reach the backrest; push back far enough for the backrest to catch you and your heels come up. What the depth is good for is the third position — turned across it, legs drawn up beside you.
Anyone who wants their shoulders held is in the wrong chair. The Puff Linen Armchair reaches 25.5cm higher off the same floor, and barely any of it is seat.
