The seat measures 65cm from back to front, which is a bed's proportion rather than a chair's: that cushion is part of the surface it folds out into, and it takes its depth from there. So what you sit on of an evening is a section of the mattress, and what a guest sleeps on is the part of the chair that has had all the use.

If the bed would be used once a year and the floor is wanted every day, the Ryan Tub Armchair - Light Grey stands in far less of it and gives up the fold-out to get there.

  • Flat Out, Full Length — Opened out it measures 193cm long and 104 wide. Sleeping length for an adult rather than a chair somebody dozes in. That is what the mechanism buys, and it is what separates this from an armchair with a footstool.
  • Two Woods, Two Jobs — Eucalyptus makes the frame that does the folding; rubberwood makes the legs you can see. The hidden structure and the visible part are two different timbers, each doing what it is good at.
  • Legs Lift It Clear — The legs hold the body 17cm off the floor, so a vacuum head goes underneath instead of around it and a line of floor stays visible behind. Worth having where the piece is already the largest thing in the room.
  • The Pillow Comes Too — A 77cm pillow is included, which is bolster length rather than scatter-cushion length. It works laid across the small of your back while the chair is a chair, and under your head once it is not.
  • Foam Under The Cover — The filling is foam throughout, so the same material is beneath you whether you are sitting on the folded chair or lying on the opened bed. One surface, one feel, no second mattress to find.
