The back of the Rivo Boucle Armchair is a single dark green shell — arm and back in one shape, in bouclé. Underneath, where four legs would be, there are three, and three feet cannot rock the way four can: whatever an old floor is doing down there, all of them stay on it. It goes by a window, beside a desk, in the room with the floorboards that never sat flat.

The shell sits 52cm back from the front edge of the seat. A thigh longer than that gets your back onto the curve, which is the one position where a wrapped shape earns anything; a shorter one stops you in front of it, on a flat seat, with the wrap behind your shoulders and touching nothing. Sat all the way back it is the chair it looks like; perched on the front of it, it is a stool with scenery.
