It reaches as far back into the room as it stands off the floor, which a photograph hides: the floor it takes is the surprise, not the height.
The seat is 38cm off the floor: the distance you drop into, and the one you climb out of. Only one of those is free. From there your feet finish ahead of your hips rather than under them, so getting up starts with pulling your heels back and pushing off the arms.
